_Results from August 1, 2009 - Pro Wrestling Night
Rent One Park - Marion, Illinois
The opening match featured AAPW's hottest new wrestler, Curly, taking on former AAPW Heavyweight Champion "Homicidal" Steven Davis. Although Curly's antics entertained the fans they frustrated Davis. Just as Davis appeared to be going for a swinging neckbreaker, Curly reversed it into a backslide for the win.
The new NWA Central States Champion, Mark Sterling, was scheduled to face the 450 lb. Mississippi Madman. Due to vehicle trouble, Madman could not make it. In his place, Evan Gelistico. Gelistico proved to be a worthy adversary for Sterling using high flying tactics throughout the match. However, Sterlings experience paid off as he was able to catch Gelistico while he was on the top turnbuckle and finished Gelistico off with a death valley driver.
All American Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championship
The AAPW Tag Team Champions, Ax Allwardt & "Thunderbolt" Brandon Walker, collectively known as Old School Thunder, defended the titles against Rage. Rage took it to the champs throughout the match up. Masters had Allwardt covered for the pin for at least a 5 count. Unfortunately, the referee was tending to Walker who took a nasty spill out of the ring. Manager Gaylord Stevens slid his man a chair and Ax hit Masters in the head and covered him. The Champions gained the controversial pinfall and Old School Thunder retained the titles, however, a re-match was made for September 12th in Herrin, IL.
Edmund "Livewire" McGuire made his long awaited return to AAPW. McGuire's opponent was Carnage. McGuire did not receive a warm welcome from his masked opponent as Carnage bullied him throughout the match. McGuire could not seem to sustain much offense. As Carnage was set to deliver the neckbreaker, McGuire in a last ditch effort attempted to unmask him. Carnage, in fear of having his identity revealed, released McGuire and as he turned around McGuire landed a superkick. Although not enough to take the larger opponent off his feet, it dazed him enough for McGuire to use a school boy roll up for the pin.
The Main Event featured former WWE/ECW superstar Kevin Thorn taking on former WWE and current TNA superstar Billy Gunn (Kip James). These two stars gave the fans their monies worth. In the waning moments of the match, Thorn delivered a pedigree to Gunn. Gunn immediately kicked out and hit Thorn with the fame-ass-er for the win.
Unfortunatley, as the matches concluded, a downpour came delaying the game. Fans were able to meet and have photo opportunities with the wrestlers under the concourse area. On the big screen, Director of Entertainment and Promotions for the Miners, Chris Hagstrom, conducted interviews with AAPW Champion Shawn Shultz and his challenger for the September 12th event in Herrin, IL., "Serial Thriller" Shane Rich.
Once the game was underway, AAPW wrestlers and staff along with Thorn and Gunn enjoyed the game and festivities. Unfortunately, the Miners were defeated by The Gateway Grizzlies.
