American Cancer Society Benefit Show
Carterville High School, Carterville, Illinois
The night kicked off with fan favorite, Edmund
"Livewire" McGuire taking on "The Golden Boy" Greg Anthony.
McGuire, who was pinned clean in the middle of the ring by AAPW Champion
"Serial Thriller" Shane Rich last May in Marion, IL, was once again
ready to climb back up the rankings in hopes of getting back the AAPW title he
lost in January of this year. He could not have picked a better opponent.
Anthony is a wily veteran who wrestles throughout the mid south and has been in
the ring with some of the greats in the business as well as making the occasional
trip to AAPW. After over 20 minutes of back and forth action, McGuire nailed
Anthony with a superkick and gained the victory.
Xavier Cage faced off against Chris O'Neal in the second bout of the evening and ended up being a very entertaining match between two very skilled competitors. O'Neal got the win via a roll up.
"Thee" Brandon Espinosa has rarely tasted defeat in an AAPW ring. On this night, “Bad Boy” Chris Thomas would answer his challenge. Thomas has been very impressive as of late. The match was hard hitting and fast paced. Espinosa chalked up the win against a top competitor and proved he deserves to be in a main event very soon.
All American Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championship Match
AAPW tag team champs Ax Allwardt and "Homicidal" Steven Davis had their first title defense since winning the belts back in May. Their opponents, Jon Michael and Stan Lee, appeared as if they would walk away with the titles as they used quick tags and double teams throughout the match, which frustrated the champions. Stan Lee hit a beautiful splash off the top rope onto "Homicidal" Steven Davis and appeared to have the victory for his team, but Manager Gaylord Stevens was able to distract the referee and allow Allwardt to deliver a low blow to Lee and roll Davis on top for the pin. Allwardt and Stevens barely escaped with their titles in hand.
El Magnifico entertained the fans against newcomer, Ace Hawkins. Magnifico's unorthodox style was too much for the rookie as AAPW's resident "Lucha" gained the victory.
The Money Makin' Jam Boys, Mississippi Madman and K.C. Jackson appeared to have their hands full as they took on two of AAPW's largest in "Playboy" Paul Rose and Carnage. Rose and Carnage have tagged together in the past with success but they apparently were not as experienced as the Jam Boys. K.C. and Madman were dominant in the opening minutes of the match. However, Carnage was able to get in a "cheap shot" on Jackson to give his team the advantage. Rose and Carnage cut off the ring and isolated the much smaller Jackson and brutally punished him. But, as most do, they underestimated the tremendous heart of K.C. Jackson. K.C. saw his opportunity as Carnage made a mistake and the 450-pound Mississippi Madman was tagged in and began to overpower his opponents. Madman secured the win for his team with a viscous 5th Floor Slam on "Playboy" Paul Rose.
All American Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship Match
The main event of the night featured the rookie, Heath Hatton, cashing in his opportunity for a shot at the AAPW Champion "Serial Thriller" Shane Rich. Hatton won a #1 Contender Battle Royal in Mascoutah, IL last April. What most believed would be a "Cake Walk" for Rich turned out to be a very competitive contest. Hatton proved to all he can hang with AAPW's best. Although a valiant effort, it just was not enough as Shane Rich defeated Hatton to retain the title. After the match, Rich added insult to injury by continuing to beat on Hatton out of frustration and possibly embarrassment as Rich wanted to show dominance over the rookie. The man who trained Hatton, Edmund "Livewire" McGuire, came to the ring in Hatton's defense. "Livewire" then challenged Rich to a tag team match on October 16th in West Frankfort, IL. Hatton and McGuire will face Rich and an opponent of his choice. Although Rich refused to let McGuire or the fans know who his partner will be, it was learned after the event that Rich will team with a recent foe of McGuire's…"Bad Boy" Chris Thomas!
